You have eloquently set forth the plea that so many of us experienced concert-goers think, but have not expressed in such a funny yet truthful way. My wife and I recently saw Ryan Adams (solo) at the Orpheum Theatre, and I was so ticked off when he started the show and the jibber-jabber drowned out the entire first song; less eloquently, I uttered for all within earshot to hear, "Are people going to shut the f--- up, or what?" I momentarily thought about walking out. Ryan seemed to recognize the frustration, as he graciously replayed the opening tune several songs later. Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience at the Newport Folk Festival, as people inexplicably jabbered throughout Gillian and Dave's set. The hopelessly narcissistic generation that it is our misfortune to share space with needs to learn one simple fact: the concert is not about you and your friends, so SHUT UP when the artist is playing."
